Parent/Carer Survey - Short Breaks and Respite for children and young people aged up to 18 years old.

Closed 17 Dec 2023

Opened 20 Oct 2023

Results updated 12 Apr 2024

Children's Short Breaks and Respite services are due to be re-tendered in Autumn 2024, with new services going live on 1st April 2025. We are engaging with multiple stakeholders to inform the review and re-design of Warwickshire's short breaks model, including the contributions made by parent-carers through this survey.

In addition to informing the service model, parent-carers have told us that it can be difficult to find information about what short breaks are, what they are entitled to, and how to access them. We will improve the information that is available to parent-carers through a full refresh of Warwickshire's Short Breaks Statement and webpages, including options for translation and easy read formats.

If you would like more information or have any other opinions, views and contributions, please send them through to us at disabilitiescommissioning@warwickshire.gov.uk with the message subject "Voice - Children's Short Breaks".

Overview

Children's Short Breaks and Respite Support Engagement

Warwickshire County Council provide a range of commissioned short break and respite services for children and young people (aged up to 18 years of age) with a disability; autistic children; or those children who have additional support needs, and their families.

The aim of short break and respite services is to enable children to have fun and take part in activities and social opportunities whilst giving parents/carers a break from their caring responsibilities. Short breaks may take place after school, at weekends, during school holidays or overnight, either in the community or in a residential home.

The current short breaks provision will come to an end in the next couple of years. The local authority is gathering information from families who currently, or may in the future, use short breaks or respite provision. This information will help inform future recommissioning of short breaks and respite.

We would like to understand what has worked well, what could be improved, and for parents/carers to share ideas on how the respite and short breaks offer could look in the future.

Please read the information below to find out more about our current offer.
