28 responses were received for the Ask Warwickshire Online Survey.

29 responses were received for a paper customer survey.

Key themes:

  • 88% were happy overall with their respite service
  • 57% agreed that their respite service had improved during the past 5 years
  • Help with transport costs was stated as a key issue in being able to access respite services for families

Availability of emergency respite was recognised as an issue.

We did

As a result of the engagement recommendations have been made to improve the service offer in future. This includes the provision of emergency respite beds to be available at short notice.

The current contracts for respite have now been extended up until April 2021 to allow more time to re-design the services and establish greater integration with health services.

Results updated 2 May 2019

Feedback was gathered as part of a review of the current respite and short breaks services to find out how well these services are working. All feedback has been analysed and will help to inform future decisions on the development of respite and short breaks services for adults with a disability.

Many thanks to everyone who took the time to share their views with us.

Overview

Warwickshire County Council is reviewing the current Respite Services for adults with a learning and/or physical disability to find out if services are meeting the needs of those that are using them and their relatives/carers.  As part of this review we are seeking the views of people that use these services, their families and carers as well as the wider public who wish to contribute their thoughts on how well services are working.

What respite services does Warwickshire County Council provide?

Overnight residential respite services are provided for disabled adults in a range of settings throughout the county. Some providers also offer the opportunity for young people aged 16-17 to access these services.

Overnight community short breaks are available as an alternative way of meeting an individual's need for residential respite services. Providers offer a range of services from overnight stays in a person's own home or stays away from home with an approved carer in suitable accommodation such as a lodge, cottage or caravan. Families may also be supported to go away on holiday together with an approved carer.

Community short breaks include a range of services which can be whole or part day activities that suit individual needs whilst providing a break for carers.
